Day 1 #NYC25
Despite the rainy weather, the Westwood College pupils' spirits remained high as they embarked on their New York adventure. They started the day with a hearty breakfast at Liberty Bagels, a firm favourite of their teacher, Mr. Edwards. This set the tone for a day filled with exploration and discovery.
The pupils then visited the American Museum of Natural History, where they marvelled at the wonders of the natural world, sparking their curiosity and sense of wonder - key aspects of the trust's vision to create a place where everyone flourishes. Following this, they ventured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the city.
In the afternoon, the pupils indulged in a bit of retail therapy on 5th Avenue, embodying the trust's value of aspiration as they dreamed of their future achievements. The day culminated with a captivating performance of the musical "Hadestown," which left the pupils inspired and entertained.
Day 2 #NYC25
The second day in the city was filled with a whirlwind of activities, testing the resilience and determination of the Westwood College pupils.
The pupils began with a bracing cruise along the river, taking in the stunning views of the New York skyline. Next, they explored the iconic Chelsea Market, where they learned about the history and innovation behind the Oreo biscuit.
The afternoon saw the pupils visiting the poignant 9/11 Memorial and Museum, where they gained a deeper understanding of the importance of compassion and integrity - values that are central to the school's ethos. They then embarked on a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, challenging themselves to push their boundaries and embrace new experiences.
The day concluded with a visit to the top of the Rockefeller Centre, where the pupils were treated to breathtaking views of the city at night, a fitting end to a day filled with exploration, discovery, and personal growth.
Day 3 #NYC25
The final day in New York City was a whirlwind of activity, as the Westwood College pupils sought to maximise their exposure to the rich cultural and historical tapestry of the city.
They started the day by visiting the majestic Empire State Building, marvelling at the panoramic views and the engineering feats that make such a structure possible.
Next, the pupils ventured to the iconic New York Public Library, where they were delighted to see the original Winnie the Pooh characters, sparking their imagination and love of literature.
The final stop was the awe-inspiring Grand Central Station, where the pupils explored the whispering gallery and immersed themselves in the bustling energy of the city.
As the Westwood College pupils bid farewell to the city, they returned home with a renewed sense of wonder, a deeper appreciation for the world around them, and a strengthened commitment to the trust's values of aspiration, compassion, and integrity. This trip has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on them, as they look forward to the many more adventures that lie ahead.
