Leek First School is the First in the Town to Go Plastic Free

Leek First School are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the 'Plastic Free School' accolade. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, pupils, and the wider community in our mission to reduce single-use plastic and promote environmental sustainability.

Empowered by our Vision and Values

Guided by their school values and the Trust's core values of aspiration, compassion, and integrity, pupils have taken the lead in raising awareness and implementing practical steps to reduce plastic waste. Their passion for protecting the environment aligns perfectly with our ethos of nurturing young learners to "believe in themselves, succeed in life, and aspire to be all that they can be."

Collaborative Efforts for a Greener Future

The Plastic Free Schools initiative, run by Surfers Against Sewage, has provided them with the framework and support to achieve this milestone. Working with Sally Perry from Moorlands Climate Action, the staff and pupils have conducted a comprehensive audit of single-use plastics within the school, identifying areas for improvement.

Through a series of litter-picking events, letter-writing campaigns to the Prime Minister, and ongoing efforts to replace disposable items with eco-friendly alternatives, the school community has demonstrated its commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

Inspiring Others to Follow Suit

As the first school in Leek to receive the Plastic Free School Award, they are proud to set an example for others in our local area. By sharing their journey and the practical steps they have taken, they hope to inspire others to embark on their own plastic-free journeys, fostering a collaborative effort to protect our environment.

Join Leek First and let's work together to build a greener, more sustainable future for our community and beyond.
